Fundraising
has ceased.
Thank you all so much for your generosity!
The last fundraising
effort, Brick Sales, ceased in late April, 2008. Construction
has now started on the project at Alki Beach. The work is
being done by Seattle Parks and Recreation, since the plaza is on
their property. Plans are to complete it by Sept. 6, 2008, at
which time we will hold a Plaza Celebration.
There will be details
shortly about the Celebration on the Home Page. If you want
more information about the history of the fundraising efforts by
SSLPP, please see our Fundraising Page.
Financial
Report:
The best news was that
we actually made the goal set by the City of Seattle of $157,000, and went over it. Since then,
however, construction has begun. There were some minor
changes in the design, as well as some delays on the part of
Seattle Parks and Recreation.
Because of the delays
and because the Plaza is on Alki Beach property owned by them,
Seattle Parks & Recreation is doing this project
"in-house". Until we get revised cost figures from
them, we cannot report how the project is going, from a financial
point of view.
However, after
preliminary discussions between Seattle Parks and Recreation,
Seattle Statue of Liberty Plaza Project, our fiscal sponsor, Urban
Sparks, the SSLPP Design Team, and the City's contracted
architects, Susan Black and Associates, the City has assured us
that this project will be "substantially completed" by
Sept. 06, 2008, within the preliminary budget, and in time for the
Plaza Celebration on that date.
We will have
construction costs in the near future, and will let you know how
the project is going financially as well as physically soon.
Please see the Home Page for announcements
about updates to this information, as well as the latest
information about the Plaza Celebration.
If you have any other
questions or concerns about this aspect of our current fundraising
efforts, or any other questions about any other matters
having to do with the Plaza Project, please call us
immediately. Thank you.
Bless you all.
